Energy Psychology Approaches

Energy psychology (EP) is a family of integrative mindbody approaches to psychotherapy, coaching, and healthcare treatment.  Energy psychology practitioners combine cognitive interventions (including focused awareness and mindfulness, imaginal exposure to traumatic memories, and cognitive reframing) simultaneously with the stimulation of one or more of the human bio-energy systems such as meridians, chakras, and biofields.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT,  aka Tapping)

EFT is the most researched and widely practiced energy psychology approach.  There have been over 200 research studies demonstrating its effectiveness for conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, pain, food cravings and more.   It has been shown to be useful for adults, teenagers and children.    

In addition to clinical problems, EFT can be incredibly effective for business, school, artistic and sports performance.  It can be used for any type of limiting belief or attitude.

What happens in an EFT session?

1) We focus on a current difficult emotion or sensations or a stressful memory of the past.

2) We develop a mindful and compassionate stance

3) The clients taps on acupressure points that reduce tension and stress  

4) We assess what has changed or come forward

5) Then we cycle through additional rounds.

EFT is incredibly gentle, yet very empowering.   We can use it in two main ways: 

A) as a method to help you or your loved one t reduce stress and self regulate, which is super helpful.

B) as a method to heal trauma and make changes in beliefs and attitudes about life based on programming from the past, which is even more helpful

It has been my experience that in most instances the change is rapid and permanent.   Complex problems need to broken up into smaller bits and it takes more time; but is usually much faster than just talking.

I have been teaching EFT to therapists and coaches for over 20 years. I emphasize to EFT students and my clients, we are using EFT to activate the body and minds natural healing abilities.  We are not rushing to get rid of the problem; the more people try to just get rid of the problem the longer it takes.   I know this might seem like a paradox, but its true.

EFT as a Self-help Tool

Once a successful pattern has been found, clients are taught the specific sequences so that they may use EFT for themselves as necessary with appropriate guidance.
